Me and my Chavelita, 2019
When I began Decolonize Your Womb just over two years ago, my only desire was to create a sacred space for reclamation, healing, and empowerment. I wanted my journey as a doula to be rooted in ancestral wisdom and body literacy. My mission was to trust my intuition and honor my body’s desire for sovereignty. In that space, I hoped to do the same for others—especially those who feel disconnected from mainstream wellness and healthcare.
So, I built the space I could not find, and Decolonize Your Womb was born from a deep need for support, resilience, and liberation. Here, we unlearn colonial narratives around birth, reproductive health, and motherhood, reconnecting instead with holistic practices that honor our cultural lineages.
Through storytelling, collective healing, and self-love, we create space for those healing from birth trauma, seeking knowledge on body autonomy, or simply looking for a community that sees and honors them. You belong here.
I never could have imagined just how much this space would give back to me—including my best friend, who stood by my side through the darkest moments of my life. At a time when I thought I was losing the life I had envisioned, I was actually creating the life the little girl in me had always longed for.
I share this because I believe we all have something to offer this world. Even the smallest acts—a kind word, a safe space for a tired mother—can be life-changing. My hope is that this space allows you to grow, learn, and heal on your own decolonial journey. May you find the people you need—your hermanxs, your chosen family. Because while the world can feel overwhelming, with a little light, we can navigate it together.
I love you all. I’m honored you’re here. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I can’t wait to witness the seeds you plant take root and thrive.
And as Walter Mercado would say…
Con mucho, mucho amor,
Jess
